Skopje, 12 December 2024 (MIA) – Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, Sanja Bozhinovska, addressed the 22nd Energy Community Ministerial Council meeting taking place in Vienna, Austria.
During the Energy Community Ministerial Council, attended by energy ministers of nine contracting parties to the Energy Community Treaty, discussions are focused on updating the roadmap for decarbonization, as well as topics related to water management, habitats and wild birds, with a view to the future introduction of additional legislative obligations in these areas, the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources said in a press release.
Bozhinovska, in her address, underscored the country’s commitment to energy transition, economic sustainability and climate neutrality. She also highlighted the progress made in the energy sector, particularly in terms of legislation and alignment of national regulations with the European legislation. She also informed participants about the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources’ intensive efforts to implement key infrastructure projects aimed at removing technical barriers in the energy network and strengthening regional cooperation.
“We are actively working on ongoing energy interconnection with Albania, will continue establishing connections with Greece, Serbia and Kosovo, and at the same time will proceed with modernizing our electrical grid to enable further integration of renewable energy. These projects will stimulate economic growth and enhance energy supply security. At the same time, improving energy connectivity through the integration of the national electricity market with the single European electricity market will ensure stable prices, competitiveness, and better access to renewable energy sources. Therefore, we look forward to continuing the electricity market coupling as soon as possible. We are committed to fulfilling our climate obligations,” Bozhinovska noted.
The meeting was attended by Minister Bozhinovska and the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Izet Mexhiti.
The Energy Community is an international organization facilitating energy cooperation between the EU and nine contracting parties: North Macedonia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, and Ukraine. It also has three permanent observers: Armenia, Norway, and Turkey. Its main goal is to bring the contracting parties closer to the EU by facilitating reforms and gradually extending EU law in the fields of energy, environment, and climate.
