Bozhinovska – Lorkowski: Aligning national energy policies with EU standards

Skopje, 14 November 2024 (MIA) – Our country remains firmly committed to aligning its national energy policies with European standards to foster economic growth and safeguard environment for future generations, said Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, Sanja Bozhinovska during Thursday’s meeting with representatives of the Energy Community Secretariat, as well as a bilateral discussion with the Director of the Energy Community Secretariat, Artur Lorkowski, at the Climate Summit in Baku, Azerbaijan.

“We continue to be an active partner of the Energy Community and are dedicated to achieving common goals in the energy transition,” Bozhinovska said, stressing that our country is making every effort to ensure the changes are timely and effective.

The meeting focused on issues of strategic importance for the region, including the progress of countries in the fields of energy and environmental protection, the integration of natural gas markets, as well as support for the transition to green energy.

Lorkowski underscored the Energy Community's commitment to enhancing energy cooperation and supporting the region in implementing policies for setting carbon emission pricing, which is a key step toward energy integration with the European Union. Moreover, this initiative is an important part of the European Green Deal, which is being implemented to ensure long-term energy security and sustainability in the region.

Minister Bozhinovska expressed support for the joint initiatives.

She informed Lorkowski that the Energy Law proposal has been uploaded to the Unique National Electronic Register of Regulations (ENER), allowing everyone to review the content of the proposed text. Director Lorkowski expressed his satisfaction and stated that he and his team would examine the proposal and offer their suggestions to ensure the law aligns with EU legislation.

“Representatives of both institutions agreed on the importance of inclusiveness and cooperation among all stakeholders in the region for the more successful and faster implementation of key energy reforms,” as stated by the Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources.
