Borrell condemns Russia’s military activities around Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant

Brussels, 6 August 2022 (MIA) – The European Union condemns Russia’s military activities around Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said Saturday.

“The EU condemns Russia’s military activities around Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. This is a serious and irresponsible breach of nuclear safety rules and another example of Russia’s disregard for international norms,” Borrell posted on Twitter.   He demanded access for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to the plant.   IAEA chief Rafael Grossi earlier this week said Europe’s largest nuclear power plant in Ukraine “is completely out of control” and issued an urgent plea to Russia and Ukraine to quickly allow experts to visit the complex to stabilize the situation and avoid a nuclear accident.
