Skopje, 16 April 2024 (MIA) - Customs revenue in 2023 is rising on every basis, the number of seizures has increased by 30 percent, the number of criminal complaints by 60 percent, and investors see us as a trusted partner and publically singled us out as an institution whose work they are most satisfied with, said the head of the Customs Administration, Stefan Bogoev during Tuesday's ceremony marking the 32nd anniversary of the Administration’s existence. 

"Results are proof of our commitment that will continue with greater vigor, because it is the only way to move forward and facilitate faster economic growth and better future for our citizens. Our goal is higher Budget revenue, that is, more money for schools, healthcare and roads, and strengthening the Macedonian economy by facilitating and accelerating trade and fighting corruption and crime," Bogoev said in a written statement. 

He highlighted that improved results have contributed to the signing of a collective agreement that will improve work conditions, and increase salaries by 43 percent for workers at the Administration. 

According to Bogoev, new development projects that will benefit all Macedonian companies will be implemented soon, while the Customs Administration is working on reforms and implementing advanced IT systems, with the aim of accelerating integration in the EU single market and EU membership. 

Finance Minister Fatmir Besimi called the Customs Administration a guardian of the country's financial interests that plays an important role in meeting economic priorities that facilitate sustainable economic growth, higher living standard and quality of life for citizens. 

"Building a modern Customs Administration and further acceleration, facilitation and digitization of customs procedures, means fast and reliable exchange of goods, services and capital, including improving conditions for business. Therefore, it is important we remain committed to implementing reforms and ready to face the challenges that come with the rapid globalization of trade," Besimi noted.ssh/ad/
