Bislimoski: ERC analyzing electricity price requests, will try to be creative in order to avoid price shock

Skopje, 21 June 2023 (MIA) – The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is currently analyzing the requests submitted by the energy companies over the price of electricity on the regulated market for the next six months, starting from July 1, and, according to ERC President Marko Bislimoski, they will try to be more creative this year in order to avoid a price shock.

“We have received the requests and we are analyzing them. Once we find out the prices, we will conclude our calculations, and we will inform the public about our decision next week,” said Bislimoski.

As the most important factors for the price of electricity in the coming six months, Bislimoski pointed to the tender at which ESM will offer electricity to the universal supplier, and the tender at which it will offer a price as compensation for the losses in the distribution network. The price will also be impacted by the increase of VAT from 10 to 18 percent.

“We set prices without VAT, and this year we will try to be creative in order to avoid a price shock on the consumers in the country,” said Bislimoski.

Regarding the reintroduction of the cheap electricity rate during daytime hours, Bislimoski said the ERC is concluding its analyses and is aware of the technical issues present in the process.

“Currently, we have serious differences over how long it would take to overcome the software issues. We will use these few days for intensive communication with the operator of the distribution system in order to determine, realistically, when and how the implementation of the cheap rate could be done,” said Bislimoski and added that it is certain that the rate will be reintroduced.
