Bislimoski: Analyses made, reinstatement of low electricity tariff mulled
- The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is currently making analysis on the possibility of reinstating the cheap electricity tariff during the day, says ERC president Marko Bislimoski.
Skopje, 20 February 2023 (MIA) - The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is currently making analysis on the possibility of reinstating the low electricity tariff during the day, says ERC president Marko Bislimoski.
Bislimoski told TV24 the change could be made as of July 1.
"We will have to see the amount of national electricity production, which according to announcements coming from Power Plants of North Macedonia (ESM) should increase by at least ten percent. We are also analyzing the large number of photovoltaics that are being built by big companies, whereas the third aspect is the cheap electricity that photovoltaics produce compared to the other daily periods. This trend will continue during the summer and we consider this element as well," says Bislimoski.
According to him, amid the period of most expensive electricity, photovoltaics contributed to it being cheap, which could lead to the reinstatement of the daily low tariff.
"Pensioners will largely benefit from this measure, since they used it the most and regularly paid their bills during the COVID-19 pandemic, thus maintaining ESM's liquidity," says Bislimoski and adds that the low tariff annually cost ESM approximately EUR 16 million.
