Bislimoski: 300 MW of renewable energy capacity to be connected to grid in 2023

Skopje, 29 April 2023 (MIA) - The Energy and Water Services Regulatory Commission (ERC) president announced Saturday that new 300 megawatt hours of installed capacity from renewable energy sources are expected to be connected to the grid in 2023. According to him, that is twice as much as last year.

During the participation of the Energy Summit in Neum, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Marko Bislimoski, pointed out that the country reached the targets from the green scenario to be realized by 2040 from the Energy Development Strategy, ERC said in a press release.

"We should now revise the Energy Strategy in this part, because the circumstances of the energy crisis have drastically changed the pace of realization of investments for the production of electricity from the Sun, wind and water", said Bislimoski.

On the panel, he shared the country's experiences in the part of the National Energy and Climate Plan.

ERC head said that decarbonization is part of the country energy transition.

"On our network are installed production facilities with capacity of 2,000 MW and currently the interest in investments in renewable sources is four times greater and reaches 8,000 MW of installed capacity, most of which are investments in photovoltaic power plants and wind power plants. The solution is seen in the batteries for which we are now working on establishing rules and procedures... We will have a new normality - from a country whose domestic electricity production was predominantly based on coal, now we will have production from renewable sources,” Bislimoski said.

The 2023 Energy Summit in Neum was opened by the US ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Michael Murphy, and experts from the energy sector participated in the panels, including Director of the Energy Community Secretariat, Artur Lorkowski.
