Bekteshi: Prices of hygiene products to be capped

Bekteshi: Prices of hygiene products to be capped

Skopje, 29 March 2023 (MIA) - The Government will decide to cap prices of certain hygiene products and determine the highest retail prices for toilet paper, wet wipes, diapers and hygiene pads, said Minister of Economy Kreshnik Bekteshi prior to the start of the Government session on Wednesday.

"The reduction will be 13 percent of retail prices on March 20. The decision is taken based on the analyses of the ministry's trade sector, taking into account the import prices we get from the Customs Administration," said Minister Bekteshi.

The decision will enter into force on April 1.

Bekteshi said the Government would freeze price as long as it needed to.

"These decisions are valid up to May 31 but they can be extended. However, the best solution is for the Parliament to adopt the changes in the VAT law that have been waiting for a committee discussion since December 2022. In this way, we will have a systemic and long-term solution for basic food and hygiene products," noted Bekteshi.
