Bekteshi: No renewal of price caps on agriculture products, electricity price won’t be increased

Skopje, 29 May 2023 (MIA) – The price caps on agriculture products won’t be renewed, since the price of certain products is already lower than the set caps. The inflation in food prices is sharply dropping, we expect the inflation in the country to drop below 10 percent in June, said Minister of Economy Kreshnik Bekteshi on Monday after a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Staša Košarac.

Last month, the Government extended the price caps on agriculture products until May 31.

Bekteshi said they are monitoring the situation with the prices of products, and said the appropriate measures would be implemented again, if abuses by retailers are registered.

“Based on the latest data, inflation will drop below the projected level this year. Regarding the various measures, we are carrying out analyses on a daily basis, and they can be adopted at any time. Of course, we are doing this in cooperation with the economic chambers,” said Bekteshi.

In the field of energy, Bekteshi said he will hold talks with the Minister of Finance, the President of the Energy Regulatory Commission, and other members of the Government’s Energy Council in June, in order to discuss the latest model for the calculation of the electricity price. However, the Minister said the prices of electricity will not be increased, regardless of the chosen model.

“I can tell the citizens they won’t be paying higher electricity prices from July 1 and until the end of the year,” said Bekteshi.

Earlier on Monday, Bekteshi and Košarac signed bilateral agreements between the governments of the two countries – on economic cooperation and cooperation in the field of tourism.
