Skopje, 19 May 2023 (MIA) – The Government will carry out analyses on the prices of fruit and vegetables and then make a decision on whether to extend the price caps, said Minister of Economy Kreshnik Bekteshi in answer to a journalist’s question on Friday.

The Economy Minister reiterated that the citizens won’t bear the burden of the crisis, and that the Economy Ministry is adopting the appropriate measures for those not complying with the decisions.

Regarding the markets’ statement that they aren’t being supplied with products by the distributors, Bekteshi said everyone has the right to share their opinion, but the institutions are the ones that will react.

“We are a democracy. Everyone has a right to share their opinion, the markets, the institutions, the citizens, the consumer protection organizations, but of course, the institutions have a duty to uphold the law. We have a Law on Consumer Protection in our country, and we have a Law on Trade. The relevant institutions need to act and take the appropriate measures for anyone not complying with these laws. I am convinced they will do so, as they have in the past,” said Bekteshi.
