Bekteshi: Drop in prices of basic foodstuffs expected in next ten days
Skopje, 10 November 2022 (MIA) – Economy Minister Kreshnik Bekteshi said Thursday a drop in the prices of basic food products, particularly those listed in the decision on setting the margins from 5 to 12 percent, is expected in the next ten days. Price reduction has already started in terms of bread, drop in the prices of milk and dairy products is expected in the next 3-4 days, as well as in terms of meat products by the end of next week.   Larger price reductions are expected as of December 1 if raw materials remain at the same import prices, Bekteshi said after Thursday’s press briefing.   “An additional decision will be adopted on Friday expanding support from the government in accordance with demands of the Economic Chamber, and the entire meat industry chain will be covered by subsidized electricity,” said Bekteshi.   According to him, import prices are monitored through the Customs Administration.  “Reductions are seen there as well. A list of those who will receive subsidized electricity will be submitted to the State Market Inspectorate, and appropriate checks will be carried out. I call on the consumers and the citizens to report to the State Market Inspectorate if they notice no reduction of these products according to the percentages,” Bekteshi said.   He reiterated that all preparations have been made in terms of electricity production, particularly for the winter period and the heating season that lasts through March.   “We don’t expect any problems in supplying consumers with electricity and heating energy,” the Minister stressed.
