Gostivar, 12 September 2023 (MIA) - Construction works of US-Turkish consortium "Bechtel-Enka" on 30.1km-long Corridor 8 motorway section Gostivar-Bukojchani were launched in village Gorna Banjica on Tuesday.

"This is the first real activity that launches the construction of both corridors. We are standing at the spot where the Gostivar-Kichevo motorway is set to pass. We are doing things in the most transparent way so that the public is convinced that the corridors will be built in record time and with the best quality," said First Deputy PM Artan Grubi.

United States Ambassador Angela Aggeler, Minister of Transport and Communications Blagoj Bochvarski and public enterprise State Roads director Ejup Rustemi also attended the event.

The Government's agreement with Bechtel-Enka stipulates the construction of Corridor 8 motorway sections Tetovo-Gostivar, Gostivar-Bukojchani and Trebenishta-Struga-Kjafasan, and Corridor 10d motorway section Prilep-Bitola.

Infrastructure projects for all sections have already been submitted to the State Roads enterprise, except for Trebenishta-Struga-Kjafasan. Expropriation studies for Tetovo-Gostivar and Gostivar-Bukojchani have also been submitted.

Bechtel-Enka has already received two tranches worth EUR 170 million for the works, out of the EUR 243 million projected for 2023.
