Avramovska Madikj: Carefully monitor corruption risks, focus on prevention

Skopje, 20 February 2024 (MIA) — Caretaker Deputy Minister of Justice Viktorija Avramovska Madikj addressed the second day of "The Future of EU Enlargement: Judiciary and Fundamental Rights" international conference held in Zagreb.
According to an official press release, Deputy Minister Avramovska Madikj spoke about corruption and said the effective prevention and fight against it was aimed at protecting the public interest and democratic values as well as strengthening institutional integrity.
"Most important of all is to provide conditions for strengthening the integrity of the human factor in the judiciary and the public prosecution," she said, adding that there was a need of greater responsibility and transparency in accordance with the rule of law.
"This is why it is necessary to carefully monitor the risks of corruption, to proactively implement activities for the prevention of corruption, and to implement an uncompromising policy of curbing corruption," Avramovska Madikj said.
According to her, modern forms of corruption developed as a result of global social and technological development and they required innovative strategies and legislation for the prevention and fight against corruption.
The deputy justice minister said a comprehensive legal and institutional framework for the prevention and fight against corruption had been established in North Macedonia.
This legal framework for the prevention of corruption incorporated a great deal of international standards and good practices, Avramovska Madikj said. mr/
