Australia reach Davis Cup final after beating Croatia
Madrid, 26 November 2022 (dpa/MIA) - Australia came from behind to reach the Davis Cup final for the first time since 2003 with a 2-1 victory over Croatia in the men's team tennis tournament on Friday.
The 28-times Davis Cup champions will meet Italy or Canada in Sunday's final in Malaga with the second semi-final taking place on Saturday in the southern Spanish city.
Croatia went ahead when Borna Coric defeated Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-4, 6-3. Alex de Minaur levelled the tie thanks to a 6-2, 6-2 thrashing of Marin Cilic.
It therefore came down to the doubles rubber where Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson prevailed 6-7 (3-7), 7-5, 6-4 over Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic.
