At least three dead, hundreds injured after earthquake in Iran

At least three people were killed and hundreds injured in a 5.9-magnitude earthquake that rocked north-western Iran, state news agency IRNA reported early on Sunday.

Several buildings in dozens of towns were damaged and more than 440 people injured, according to the report.

The quake occurred at 9.44 pm on Saturday evening in the province of West Azerbaijan, near the border with Turkey, according to the report, citing the Iranian Seismological Center in Tehran.

The city of Khoy was particularly affected but tremors were also felt in other regions.

It comes after at least 120 people were injured in another quake that rattled north-western Iran last week.
