Moscow, 14 March 2024 (dpa/MIA) - At least one person died and two others were injured in the crash landing of a Mi-8 helicopter in Russia's Far East, according to authorities early on Thursday.
A total of 20 people were on board the aircraft that crashed in the Magadan region, a spokesman for the Russian aviation authority Rosaviatsiya said.
According to media reports, the passengers were miners. The cause of the accident was initially unknown.
There was also little information about the fate of most of the aircraft's occupants.
According to the aviation authority, two helicopters with medics have already been sent to the site of the crash. However, the current weather conditions are making the search and rescue work challenging, the spokesman explained.
