Army Chief of Staff Gjurchinovski to attend NATO Military Committee meeting in Brussels

Skopje, 16 January 2024 (MIA) – Army Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski has begun an official visit to the Kingdom of Belgium on Tuesday. In Brussels, he is set to participate in the NATO Military Committee's (MC) regular conference scheduled for January 17-18.

Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski will take part in discussions on issues of strategic importance to the Alliance.

In separate sessions, as reported by the Army General Staff, discussions will focus on the needs and plans for enhancing interoperability, strengthening and developing capabilities and capacities, integrated air and missile defence, adaptation to current and future threats, and various other issues.

At the conference, a session of the NATO-Ukraine Council is scheduled, with discussions among Chiefs of General Staff addressing Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, the situation on the ground, and NATO and Allied continued support to Ukraine. Moreover, there will be session for dialogues with counterparts from NATO’s Indo-Pacific Partners.

Admiral Rob Bauer, Chair of the Military Committee, will preside over the meeting, which will be attended by the Allied Chiefs of Defence and their Invitee counterpart from Sweden. They will be joined by General Christopher Cavoli, Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), and General Chris Badia, Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (DSACT). NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg and NATO Deputy Secretary General, Mircea Geoană are set to deliver remarks.

General Gjurchinovski is set to hold discussions with NATO counterparts on several defence-related topics of mutual bilateral interest during the conference.
