Skopje, 6 September 2022 (MIA) - The appeals of the five men convicted in the so called Monster case have been dismissed as being groundless and the first-instance verdict has been altered only regarding the calculation of the detention ordered for the defendants, the Skopje Appellate Court confirmed to MIA. "The time spent in detention has been precisely calculated, because the first-instance verdict has some shortcoming in that regard," it said. The second-instance court upheld the sentences of the convicts - the life sentences handed down to Alil Demiri and the brothers Agim and Afrim Ismailovic. The verdict for Haki Aziri, sentenced to nine years in prison, and for Fejzi Aziri, sentenced to 15 years in prison, was also upheld. The only defendant who was acquitted was Sami Ljuta. On April 12, 2012, five men, including Filip Slavkovski, Aleksandar Nakjevski, Cvetancho Ackovski, Kire Trpkovski and Borche Stevkovski, were killed near Smilkovo Lake in Skopje. The Monster case had two trial after the Supreme Court in 2017 ordered re-trial and the case to be prosecuted b the then Special Public Prosecution Office.
