Angelovska-Bezhoska - Rokas: National Bank's independence is key for the credibility of its polices

Skopje, 19 November 2024 (MIA) – National Bank’s independence is key to maintain the public’s high credibility and to implement policies aimed at ensuring price and financial stability. The National Bank has been aiming to reach a higher level of transparency in all aspects of its operations so as to maintain the high confidence, it was noted at a meeting of National Bank Governor Anita Angelovska-Bezhoska with EU Ambassador Michalis Rokas.

It was concluded that monetary policy is highly aligned with the European regulations as cited in the latest European Commission report on the country’s progress, said the National Bank.

Governor Angelovska-Bezhoska said the central bank has been applying a cautious monetary policy in order to ensure price stability. The National Bank will further strengthen the resilience of the banking system through measures and regulatory requests and advance its institutional capacities to better address modern trends and challenges.

The Ambassador voiced support for the National Bank’s efforts to submit a request for the country to join the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). Having in mind the high level of alignment of the legal framework, a positive evaluation is expected paving the way for the country to join SEPA, said the press release.

Governor Angelovska-Bezhoska and EU Ambassador Rokas also discussed several topical issues that are part of the EU’s dialogue with Western Balkan countries, conducted on the basis of the Economic Reform Program 2024 – 2026, submitted by candidate countries.
