Skopje, 13 May 2024 (MIA) - National Bank Governor Anita Angelovska-Bezhoska said Monday that the country still has no significant downward adjustments in food prices. Comparing food prices with pre-pandemic levels shows that they are almost twice as high as those worldwide.
In response to media questions after the presentation of the latest macroeconomic projections, Angelovska-Bezhoska noted that international financial institutions project a further decline in food prices this year, and price stabilization for next year, which leaves room for certain downward adjustments.
"If we look at the movement of world food prices since mid-2022, there has been an almost continuous decrease, but latest data shows that they have not returned to pre-pandemic levels yet, but are 17-18 percent higher. If we compare these trends with trends in the domestic economy, we can conclude that they are not fully synchronized. In our country, the growth of food price started later compared to world food prices, and there are still no significant downward adjustments," Angelovska-Bezhoska stressed.
She added that the pricing policy is determined by several factors. ssh/sk/
