Angelovska-Bezhoska and Hulmann sign cooperation memo to boost macroeconomic planning
Skopje, 4 November 2022 (MIA) – National Bank Governor Anita Angelovska-Bezhoska and Switzerland’s Ambassador to North Macedonia Véronique Hulmann, on behalf of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), signed Friday a memorandum of cooperation in the field of macroeconomic policy.   The memorandum aims at strengthening capacities and improving tools for macroeconomic analysis and planning in the National Bank through cooperation and exchange of experience with SECO expert team. It provides for activities in macroeconomic policy planning and coordination, through the implementation of a project on macroeconomic planning and management, the National Bank said in a press release.   Ambassador Hulmann expressed support for the deepening of cooperation with the central bank, highlighting that the National Bank is and will be an example of a credible and independent institution in the country.   “The National Bank Governor underlined that strengthening the analytical capacities of the central bank is of crucial importance, because credible macroeconomic analyses and planning are the basis for carrying out appropriate economic policies. Angelovska-Bezhoska pointed to the importance of this project, particularly in the context of the current crisis and in conditions of high uncertainty, when quality macroeconomic projections play a significant role in the next activities of economic actors. This is extremely important in monetary policy, where forming expectations is essential for future movements. She emphasized that the central bank will continue to constantly upgrade and strengthen its analytical capabilities,” reads the press release.     The signing event took place in the Ministry of Finance, in the presence of Minister Fatmir Besimi who also signed the memorandum.
