Andonovski: Ministry for Political System to transform into Ministry for Community Relations

Skopje, 19 May 2024 (MIA) - The Ministry for Political System will transform into a Ministry for Community Relations, says VMRO-DPMNE international cooperation secretary Stefan Andonovski.

"Being a lawyer, I take issue with the ministry's title 'for political system', since political system is what we are all doing. The Parliament is a political system, the Government and even the courts represent the political system. It was strange to see a minister in charge of the whole political system in the country. Therefore, I believe this institution will be transformed into a Ministry for Community Relations," Andonovski told Radio Free Europe.

Asked if the ministry would be reserved for the coalition partner as it has been the case until now, he says there is still no agreement on the issue.

Andonovski also refers to the government formation talks and reaching a two-thirds majority in the Parliament.

"We are already discussing programmes and nominees but are not sharing details in respect for our coalition partners and in order to be fair to the process," says Andonovski.

On ZNAM's inclusion in the next government, he says talks are currently taking place between VMRO-DPMNE and Worth It.

"We are trying to reach a broader consensus on certain national issues and reach the required 80 MPs for essential changes in systemic laws that require a two-thirds majority. Therefore, discussions will also be held with other political parties or individual MPs," notes Andonovski.

He adds that the new government would lead an open fight against crime and corruption, regardless of the background of those involved.

"Of course, everyone will be held accountable, be it from DUI, Worth It VMRO-DPMNE or its partners. Nevertheless, I believe corruption and crime were a systemic issue in DUI. I used the term of parasite eating up the tissue of institutions, destroying them from the inside. There are institutions DUI was heading for a long time and these institutions are collapsing. In such a situation, we have to stop this long DUI reign and this distortion of governance," says Andonovski and adds that people in Worth It have sincere intentions in the fight against corruption and crime, as to be shown in the first days of the new authorities.
