Andonovski: Digital skills, innovation key to progress of society and economy

Skopje, 1 October 2024 (MIA) -  Minister of Digital Transformation Stefan Andonovski addressed on Tuesday the Ministerial Meeting of the Western Balkans Steering Platforms on Education and Training, Research and Innovation, and Culture, organized by the EU Delegation in Skopje. 

Minister Andonovski stressed the importance of digital transformation for the progress of the country and the region. 

"Today, digital skills and innovation are key to the progress of our society and economy," Andonovski said, as cited by the Ministry of Digital Transformation.  

He presented the plans of the Republic of Macedonia in the area of building digital skills. 

"We aim for at least 80% of the adult population to have basic digital skills by 2030. We also aim to significantly increase the number of ICT professionals, with a particular focus on increasing the participation of women in this field," Minister Andonovski pointed out. 

The Agenda focusing on innovation, research, education, culture, youth and sport, adds the press release, sets the region on the right path for deeper cooperation with the EU, and the Ministerial Meeting will focus on joint efforts for its implementation.

The ministers attending the meeting, along with all other participants, will discuss the significant role of the European Research Area and the European Innovation Agenda, in which all Western Balkan partners are fully integrated.
