Analyzing Bechtel-Enka contract with full capacity, says anti-corruption commission President

Skopje, 22 May 2023 (MIA) – We received the contract with American-Turkish consortium Bechtel-Enka and we are currently analyzing it. A larger team is working on the case, and the tasks have already been delegated to the advisors, said the President of the State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption (SCPC), Biljana Ivanovska, on Monday.

Ivanovska reiterated that they have several advisors, some of which are focused on public procurement, labor relations, some are investigating, while others are analyzing the legislation which is set to be adopted.

“Everything related to this case is being covered, trust me it requires a little more work and analysis, we also want to finish as soon as possible too and share our conclusions. I can’t give you an exact date, we are working with our full capacity. As soon as it’s over, we will come with the results,” said Ivanovska.

The SCPC opened a case over the project for the construction of Corridor VIII and X-d motorways, after media reports over the selection of the companies charged with overseeing the project. The Public Prosecutor’s Office opened a case as well following the reports.

Preparatory activities are currently underway for the upcoming construction on the ground. For the realization of the Contract, amendments to five laws are currently in Parliament as part of a fast-track procedure. The amendments were marked with an EU flag by the Government, which gave rise to debate and criticism from the opposition.
