Skopje, 9 November 2023 (MIA) – European Union Ambassador David Geer handed over Thursday the European Commission's Progress Report on North Macedonia to the President of the Supreme Court, Besa Ademi.

According to a press release from the Supreme Court, in his address Ambassador Geer highlighted the activities and commitments of the Supreme Court which have been positively noted, “stressing that the rule of law, independence, efficiency and transparency of the judiciary play a key role in North Macedonia’s European aspirations, while the Supreme Court is committed to the principles, as stated by the EU’s new Report”.

At the event, the President of the Supreme Court noted that the fulfillment of European standards requires “willingness, decisiveness, a serious approach, as well as a proper implementation of the principles for an independent judiciary”.

“What is especially important for the Supreme Court is that the new Report, like last year, positively assesses the highest court in the country, which is a recognition of the continuous commitments. For us this represents a great satisfaction. We’ve invested a lot of commitment and energy in this field. The Report stresses the activities of the Supreme Court as regards to the consistency of the judicial decisions, the promotion of the judicial practice, transparency, the work of the Council for Open Judiciary and the strengthening of the fundamental principles founded upon the European standards,” stressed the President of the Supreme Court.
