Ambassador Geer against abusing EU-flagged laws to avoid discussion on important legislation

Kochani, 10 February 2023 (MIA) - European Union Ambassador David Geer said Friday the EU flag should be used in Parliament only for those laws related to European norms and standards and not to avoid discussion when adopting important legislation.
Ambassador Geer was quizzed on the call addressed to him by the Sports Betting Association, which said the Government abuses the EU flag and wants to adopt the new Law on Games of Chance without public debate, thus leaving many people without a job.
"I will not comment on individual laws but let me highlight the importance of the general principle - that expedited procedure in the Parliament should be used only when it comes to specific legislation related to the European law. The EU flag should be used only for laws related to European norms and standards. The reason behind allowing the use of the EU flag when passing laws is to accelerate reforms required for alignment with European law. However, it should not be used to avoid discussion on important legislation," Geer told reporters.
