Aliu: Law on security of networks and information systems to provide high level of security

Skopje, 6 October 2023 (MIA) – The law on security of networks and information systems, and digital transformation will provide a high level of security to networks and information systems in the country, as well as a more efficient and more effective digital transformation in our country, said Minister of Information Society and Administration, Azir Aliu, at a press conference Friday, following a public discussion on the law organized by the Ministry.

Aliu added that a high level of transparency will be provided in order to ensure the development of innovative software solutions in the system.

“One of the key goals of this law is the digital transformation of the public sector which will foresee a transition from the distributed digital infrastructure to a centralized approach in a government cloud,” said Aliu, adding that the ways and deadlines for the migration of public sector information systems to the government cloud have been outlined, as well as the integration of decentralized information systems within the centralized government cloud.

The Minister announced that the government cloud will be established within 24 months of the law's entry into force.

Minister Aliu stressed that North Macedonia is among the first countries in the region and beyond that has entirely transposed the European Union's NIS 2 Directive in the field of network and information system security.

“The law also foresees the establishment of an Agency for the security of networks and information systems, and digital transformation, which will be structured in line with the structure of the European Union’s regulatory body ENISA (European Union Agency for Cybersecurity). The Agency will be tasked with managing and coordinating the process of digital transformation in the public sector,” said Minister Aliu.

The Minister said the law is expected to be submitted to Parliament in about two weeks, and he believes it will be adopted in a month and a half.
