Agreement signed over construction of Europe House in Struga
Struga, 15 June 2023 (MIA) – In about four months Struga will receive a Europe House located in an existing building in the Poetry Park. The agreement for the beginning of construction was signed Thursday in Struga by the EU Ambassador to North Macedonia, David Geer, the Mayor of Struga, Ramiz Merko, and the acting President of the Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia (SSM).
The Poetry Park, according to EU Ambassador Geer, is a symbol of the artistic and cosmopolitan spirit of Struga, the exceptional work of the Miladinovci brothers, and the world renowned Struga Poetry Evenings festival which has brought poets together for more than 60 years.
“In about four months, this park will be the home of a Europe House, the sixth one in North Macedonia. A place where the young people from the Southwestern region will be able to meet, exchange ideas and work together for a better European future for all and for their country,” said Geer.
The Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European affairs, Bojan Marichikj, said he believes the Europe House in Struga will be a place for meetings, dialogues, new ideas and creativity in line with the European values.
“In this way, the young citizens of Struga will strengthen their friendship and build partnerships with the youth from the EU, creating better opportunities for the development of their potential through European experiences. With this, the EU is demonstrating the longstanding partnership and cooperation that we have, while at the same time, it proves that the Macedonian citizens share the same values with the EU citizens,” said Marichikj.
The Mayor of Struga, Merko, voiced satisfaction over the opportunity for the construction of Europe House in Struga, which will act as a place for cooperation of the youth from the region.
“Through youth cooperation we hope to bring a European climate in Struga. Here, they will carry out projects with the Municipality of Struga, the American Corner and the Poetry House. Europe House will be a part of the many events organized in Struga,” said Merko.
