Agreement reached on autumn market basket, to be discussed at next session of Gov’t: PM

Skopje, 18 September 2024 (MIA) - The proposal for an autumn market basket is expected to be discussed at the next session of Government, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told media on Wednesday.

The Prime Minister said an agreement has been reached and that the proposal by the Ministry of Economy and Labor was submitted to the Government on Tuesday.

“There was a proposal yesterday by the Economy Minister, which is a result of the meeting the relevant actors had with producers and traders. We said we would solve things through dialogue, an agreement was reached, and it will be discussed at the next government session. It wasn’t discussed yesterday due to certain technical reasons, but we want it to pass all the filters. I expect it to be on the agenda at the next government session on Tuesday,” Mickoski said.

Which products will be a part of the measure and whether the Government will choose to cap prices or limit profit margins is expected to be known by Tuesday.

Regarding the law banning unfair practices which is set to enter into force on September 28, the PM said if the business sector doesn’t come out with a final position, the law will be implemented as planned.
