Aggeler: We applaud incoming prime minister’s decision to use constitutional name at the swearing in

Skopje, 21 June 2024 (MIA) - United States Ambassador Angela Aggeler said she applauds VMRO-DPMNE leader and PM-designate Hristijan Mickoski's public announcement the other evening in saying that he would respect the constitutional name of the country during his swearing in and during visits abroad.

In an interview with 360 Degrees, Aggeler expressed hope that all of the ministers will follow that example as well.

"I will say that it was a disappointment to leadership in Washington when the President chose not to use the constitutional name of this country during her swearing in. And, frankly, for the incoming prime minister and his ministers to do so is something that we applaud. My understanding is that the procedures within the parliament have been changed to include that (the constitutional name) and I am delighted to see that. I was very pleased, and I applaud his public announcement the other evening in saying that he would respect the constitutional name of this country during his swearing in," Aggeler said.

As regards expectations from the new government, Aggeler said she expects them to follow up as quickly as possible on the promises that they made during their campaign.

"I look forward to seeing how they, and this is true of any government that would have come into power, match the rhetoric from their campaign and campaign promises with their actions. Because at the end of the day it is your actions by which you are judged as a political party and as a government versus campaign promises which frankly can cover all the spectrum of politics during an election," Aggeler told 360 Degrees.

The Parliament's session for the election of the new government is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. According to the Parliament's Rules of Procedures it is to last two days at most. PM-designate Hristijan Mickoski announced that he will use the country's constitutional name during his swearing in.
