Skopje, 4 October 2023 (MIA) - I urge leaders from every party to do the right thing for this country and for the kids, U.S. Ambassador Angela Aggeler said Wednesday in response to a reporter’s question on the process of constitutional amendments, required to continue the country's EU negotiations, and the opposition’s stance that it does not accept changes to the Constitution under Bulgarian dictate.
"Being here today, and seeing these kids, makes me feel even more strongly than I do every day that it is so important for this country to be in the European Union. You are already a part of Europe, and we should formalize that by moving this country towards the European Union and beginning those discussions," Aggeler said during Wednesday’s visit to the village of Radovo on the occasion of putting into use a preschool educational centre in Bosilevo, through a USAID program.
She noted that moving the country forward towards the EU is in everyone’s interest, particularly the youngest, who will be motivated to stay in the country and look for opportunities at home.
"I know it's difficult, but just look at the kids. We're not in the European Union, we're not in Europe, we're from the United States, but for these children to have opportunities that make them want to remain in this country when they grow up, when they graduate from high school, when they go to college, there's your example of why this is so important," said Aggeler.
