Aggeler: United States stronger because of allies, friends and partners like North Macedonia

Skopje, 3 July 2024 (MIA) - Strong democracies do not rise to success single-handedly. We are stronger together. The United States is better, stronger and nobler because we have allies, friends and partners like North Macedonia, said Ambassador Angela Aggeler at the event celebrating the 248th anniversary of U.S. independence in Skopje on Tuesday.
"Generally speaking, elections are based on differences of opinions, priorities and individual goals. They can be difficult, tumultuous and fractious, but when they are over it is imperative that we turn to what one of our greatest presidents Abraham Lincoln called 'the better angels of our nature'. To unite again as a nation and to work together for the good of all its citizens. This is true here today, just as it will be in the United States in November. I applaud those of you, in the new government and beyond, who have done just that - called on your better angels," said Aggeler.
Referring to democracy and its significance, the Ambassador quoted Nobel Prize laureate Maria Ressa, who said democracy is fragile and one has to fight for every bit, every law, every safeguard, every institution, every story.
"You must know how dangerous it is to suffer even the tiniest cut. And today, her words have greater meaning than ever. All around us, we see a world in flux. More voters than ever in history are eligible to vote in 2024 in over 90 countries and in the European Union, even as wars and conflict affect millions across the globe. And in this maelstrom, I am reminded again that strong democracies do not rise to success single-handedly. We are stronger together. The United States is better, stronger and nobler because we have allies, friends and partners like North Macedonia," noted Aggeler.
The U.S. Ambassador also wrote in an X post about the Independence Day event.
"Had a wonderful evening celebrating 248 years of American independence with partners and friends in Skopje tonight. Strong democracies are fortified by friends, Allies, and committed partners like North Macedonia", says Aggeler.
