Aggeler not commenting on prosecutor's actions following US designation of officials for corruption

Tetovo, 17 December 2024 (MIA) – The US Ambassador Angela Aggeler had no comment regarding the ongoing investigations and charges against the two officials after they were blacklisted by the United States over suspicions of corruption.

The US State Department on Dec. 9 said it was adding Artan Grubi and Enver Bexheti to its blacklist for their involvement in significant corruption by accepting bribes to undermine judicial processes tied to the criminal conviction of Sasho Mijalkov, director of North Macedonia’s Administration for Security and Counter-intelligence (UBK).

"I can't. I am not a part of the internal investigative processes in this country," Aggeler said Tuesday when asked if she could comment on the investigation initiated after the two officials were added to the US State Department's blacklist.

In response to a reporter's question about whether the US will assist with the issue between North Macedonia and Bulgaria, Aggeler said that she would repeat the previously stated position.

"We are not part of the EU. And that's why we are not involved in many of those discussions. But I will reiterate what we have previously stated in Washington and here in Skopje, as well as what my friend in Sofia, our Ambassador Martin, has said. We would love to see North Macedonia in the European Union, and we hope that their discussions will be successful and productive. The prosperous, successful, and secure future of this country is within the European Union. It is at the heart of Europe, and that’s where it belongs," Aggeler stated.

The US Ambassador visited the South East European University in Tetovo to hold a lecture for the students.
