Athens, 9 August 2023 (dpa/MIA) - Ninety-four fans from Croatia appeared before Athens prosecutors on Wednesday, in the wake of violent clashes between Dinamo Zagreb and AEK Athens supporters in which a Greek man was stabbed to death.

Reports said that DNA samples were taken from the 94 people in check against DNA of the 29-year-old victim from the incidents Monday night in which 10 others were taken to hospital injured.

News reports said that five further Croatians were arrested after having attempted to leave Greece as tourists, and that searches were on for another 50 troublemakers.

Between 150 and 250 Croatian fans had made their way to Athens for Tuesday's Champions League third round qualifier, although away fans were banned from the stadiums for both legs by the clubs to prevent trouble.

Greek reports said many fans arrived in a group of cars and that Greek police seemingly did not stop them, although Croatian authorities warned of "risky fans" and Montenegrin border police passed on to them the number plates of the cars in question.

Dinamo fans rioted in Athens and the clashes in which the man died occurred outside AEK's arena after Dinamo's training session ended and the team had left the venue.

The game was postponed by the ruling body UEFA and rescheduled for August 19, four days after the teams are to meet in Zagreb.
