Skopje, 20 October 2023 (MIA) - Chair of North Macedonia's Parliamentary Committee on European Affairs Arber Ademi met Friday with Chair of Serbia's Committee for European Integration Elvira Kovács. 

Talks highlighted that it is very important for the Western Balkans to become part of the European Union as soon as possible, and it is necessary for the Union to find a way to make this possible, noting that preparation for full-fledged membership can be achieved by 2030 as the date is a realistic and achievable goal, both for the candidates and for the Union, the Parliament said in a press release.

The interlocutors agreed that, given the crisis in Ukraine, a political momentum has been created in Brussels that is favorable for the process of further enlargement of the EU, which the Western Balkans should not miss.

The discussion also tackled promoting bilateral and parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, the perspectives of the EU enlargement with the Western Balkans, as well as the current developments in Europe and the world.
