AA to conduct negotiations over joining government at highest level

AA to conduct negotiations over joining government at highest level

Tetovo, 27 January 2023 (MIA) – Alliance for Albanians (AA) leader Arben Taravari alongside five of the closest associates will negotiate whether the party will join the government and whether the ruling majority will be expanded. Taravari said the party has a strategy and demands, it will negotiate, but tit is also ready to stay in opposition.

In addition to the party’s leader, the two secretaries and the three vice presidents are part of the negotiating team.

After Friday’s meeting of the party presidency in Tetovo, Taravari said the party’s strategy in the negotiations will be specified today and over the weekend, in terms of demands and priorities, as well as personnel decisions.

“If they meet our demands, particularly in terms of program requirements, not so much in terms of personnel, then we will also hear what the AA members say and make a definitive decision. I hope this won’t take long, but a decision will be made in a very short time on whether we’re in or we continue in opposition,” said Taravari.

He announced that in the meantime AA will also organize an internal party referendum where 11,500 members will be able to express their opinion.

He pointed out that it is still too early for anyone to claim with certainty that 2/3 majority will be reached for constitutional amendments.

“At the moment, there is no guarantee for 80 MPs. However, there’s chance. A chance should be given to reach 80 MPs. This is arithmetically not possible without VMRO DPMNE MPS. So yes, we will see if we can do it. Our goal is to give it a chance to reach 80,” said Taravari.

Friday’s meeting was the first of the Central Presidency after the Assembly held on January 21. The party made a decision to open a call for three AA branches in Čaška, Tetovo, Jegunovce.
