AA committee requests dismissal of ministers Mexhiti and Aliu

Skopje, 6 February 2024 (MIA) – The Personnel Committee of the Alliance for Albanians (AA) decided Tuesday to propose that Prime Minister Talat Xhaferi dismiss the Minister of Information Society and Administration, Azir Aliu, and Minister of Health, Fatmir Mexhiti, who come from the party’s ranks.

“The Personnel Committee of the Alliance for Albanians, composed of 7 members, as the sole body of the AA overseeing personnel issues, with a majority of 5 votes, decided to propose that the Prime Minister dismiss the Minister of Information Society and Administration and the Minister of Health,” said the party in a press release.

“The decision,” said the party, “has been adopted since, using the power of the ministerial post while not holding any position within the party, the two ministers have been taking actions which are contrary to the code of ethics, including blackmail and pressure on AA members and employees, as well as today’s public flirting with VMRO-DPMNE, by paying a visit to its minister.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Health Minister Fatmir Mexhiti voiced his support for AA leader Arben Taravari as the “legitimate leader of the party”.

The Alliance for Albanians has scheduled a session of the party's assembly for Saturday, with political developments ahead of the presidential and parliamentary elections and AA's decision of last October regarding its positioning at the upcoming polls on the agenda.

The scheduling of the assembly comes after AA leader Arben Taravari urged the party over the weekend to join the opposition parties of ethnic Albanians for the coming elections. While, AA assembly chairman and former leader Ziadin Sela said he was against the decision, noting that the party should run alone at the elections, whereas party structures should take the final decision.
