2025–2030 Country Strategy provides for new funds and support for green projects, Energy Ministry strengthens cooperation with EBRD

Skopje, 28 November 2024 (MIA) - Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, Sanja Bozhinovska, met with representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), discussing possibilities to deepen cooperation and support towards the green transition and sustainable development of North Macedonia.

Talks focused among other on the new 2025-2030 Country Strategy for North Macedonia, which is currently being drafted. The strategy aims to address the challenges facing the country and strengthen sustainable development. It is expected to be finalized in the first half of 2025, and will be aimed at supporting green economy, sustainable infrastructure and regional integration, the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources said in a press release on Thursday. 

"The EBRD, as a major investor in the country, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting infrastructure and energy reforms. Particular focus was placed on possibilities to increase investment in renewable energy sources, modernize the energy grid and improve cross-border connectivity," reads the press release. 

Participants in the meeting pointed out that cooperation so far has brought significant results, including financial support for the construction of the first solar photovoltaic capacities owned by ESM, as well as the projects for expanding the capacities in Oslomej and the Bitola thermal power plant. 

To date, the EBRD has invested €2.9 billion in 196 projects across the country, with an emphasis on energy transition, infrastructure and increasing liquidity in the energy market.

The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources and the EBRD, adds the press release, remain committed to regular meetings and partnership to achieve a shared vision for economic progress and a green future.
