VMRO-DPMNE to reveal mayoral candidates for local elections in May

Skopje, 8 January 2025 (MIA) – The ruling VMRO-DPMNE’s Your Macedonia coalition will reveal the names of its mayoral candidates for this year's local elections in the second half of May, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Wednesday in Shtip during the opening of the Vera Ciriviri Trena kindergarten and the sports balloon hall at Goce Delchev primary school.

A final decision on the names of the mayoral candidates has not yet been made, Mickoski said, but he noted that an internal party debate is underway, and the municipal committees have already submitted proposed names that will be included in upcoming surveys and evaluations.

“Shtip mayor Ivan Jordanov has made a big difference compared to his predecessors, and I expect him to continue in the same manner in the period ahead. As for the other mayoral candidates in municipalities across Macedonia, as a party and coalition, we have not yet made a final decision on the names. Currently, an internal party debate is underway, and the municipal committees have submitted proposals and names to be included in the surveys and evaluations,” Mickoski said.

He added that the surveys will begin in the second half of January, and as he stated, the expectation is that up to 90 percent of the results will be announced by May.

“We’re starting intensive measurements in the second half of January, and I expect to announce 85 to 90 percent of the results by mid-May, revealing who the mayoral candidates will be,” Mickoski stated.
