UN calls for more entry points for aid into Gaza Strip

UN calls for more entry points for aid into Gaza Strip

Tel Aviv, 20 October 2024 (dpa/MIA) – The United Nations called on Sunday for Israel to open more routes into the Gaza Strip to facilitate the delivery of aid to the population.

"In Gaza, we can't run a humanitarian operation at the scale needed with just a few unreliable and poorly accessible crossing points," the UN's humanitarian affairs office (OCHA) posted on X.

It called for many routes to be opened for critical supplies and services. "Aid has only been facilitated when it has reached the people who need it, when they need it," OCHA said.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched another offensive against Hamas in the north of the Gaza Strip two weeks ago.

Since then, aid organizations have reported extreme hunger and catastrophic conditions for the civilian population and called on Israel to open the routes it controls into the region. Israel checks goods entering the Gaza Strip for weapons.
