Rise in emergency calls related to traffic accidents, chronic illness complications

Skopje, 5 January 2025 (MIA) — Skopje has entered 2025 with an increase in emergency calls related to traffic accidents and chronic illness complications, Emergency Medical Service sources told MIA.

Chronically ill patients are complaning of worsening symptoms due to "weather changes and polluted air," the sources said.

Many of the traffic accidents were serious — some of them fatal — so health workers are urging members of the public not to drive under the influence of alcohol over the Orthodox Christmas holidays and to drive carefully on icy roads.

The Skopje Public Health Center emergency services will be open 24 hours on Jan. 6 -7 and medical house calls will be made from 7 am to 9 pm.

The emergency rooms in the Gjorche Petrov, Bit Pazar, Chair, Shuto Orizari, Jane Sandanski, Chento and Drachevo outpatient clinics will also be open 24 hours on Jan. 6-7. mr/
